AGARTALA, April 25 (TIWN): When the existing statues placed in the city are not maintained well, the state has taken another initiative of placing the statue of Surya Sen the great Indian freedom fighter in front of Ujjayanta Palace on Monday.
It is seen that statues are decorated on occasion and never paid any attention until the next occasion. High level dignitaries comes show respect offers flowers and after that no one looks back at this statues. Even government did not continue the maintenance of Statue as well.
At the present time everyone’s patriotism generated on any occasion only & it’s became a fashion also. State government dignitaries give long speeches towards all freedom fighter but did not take any action to maintain their statues. State government spent lots of money in the name development but spent nothing for those peoples who did fight for our independence.
However, a new statue of Surya Sen, great Indian freedom fighter was placed in front of Ujjayanta palace.
It is to be mentioned here that Surja Sen is known for leading the Chittagong Armoury Raid on 18th April, 1930. He was born on March 22, 1894.
After the death of Bagha Jatin 1915 A.D. the revolutionary movement of Bengal stopped for nearly a decade. After that, with the appearance of Surya Sen (1893-1934 A.D.), a new wake in the revolutionary movement was notice. During the Civil Disobedience Movement organized by Gandhiji, Chittagong in East Bengal became a hot place of revolutionary movement with the effort of Surya Sen.
The main achievement during the lifetime of Surya Sen was the ‘Chittagong Armoury Raid’ (18th April, 1930). But as he was connected handing over his dead body to h is relatives, it was thrown in the sea. 14 revolutionists in Chittagong Armour case were imprisoned. Many things can be known from the book “Mahanayak Surya Sen” written by Kalpana Dutta. It was only Surya Sen, who masterminded the Chittagong Armoury Raid (1930) who put new enthusiasm in freedom movement of India.
Surya Sen made ‘Indian Republican Army (1930) consisting 64 revolutionaries of which Lokenath Bal, Ganesh Ghosh, Ambika Chakraborty, Jibon Ghoshal, Tegra Bal and others.
