AGARTALA, April 17 (TIWN) : Although 'poor' Chief Minister Manik Sarkar prefers traveling via helicopter even short distances but his deputy Power Minister Manik Dey's Ministry failed to clear accumulated dues resulting approx. Rs 180.33 crores to power generating plants NEEPCO, also further pending dues to OTPC Palatana,. Due to non-payment of piled up dues, OTPC, NEEPCO reduced power grid allocations to Tripura. As a result TSECL (Tripura State Electicity Supply Corporation) is unable to meet the required demand of 260MW per day to keep State load-shedding free. From Chief Minister to Power Minister's poor planning burdened the state with crores of unpaid bills due to which even though common people paying electricity bills every month are now forced to suffer from power crisis daily basis till TSECL clears OTPC,NEEPCO Bills. With the recent inauguration of 100 MW power supplying to India’s neighboring country Bangladesh, Tripura is expected to suffer from acute power crisis in the coming days, says sources.

Even though Tripura’s consumers are paying bills every month but State Power Ministry has failed to resolve the power problems, in addition failed to combat  power theft at rural areas, which  is causing massive losses, creating problems for TSECL load distribution.

Due to the pending bills over  Rs 180.33 crores since May 2013 Tripura's  power supply from NEEPCO reduced from April month.

NEEPCO had asked the Northeast Regional Load Dispatch Centre (NERLDC) to cut power supply to Tripura from April 5, 2016 and Tripura Govt. was issued a letter to clear the bill within March 31, 2016.

But as TSECL has failedclear the bill, Tripura was going to lose its power supplying from NEEPCO. But TSECL on March 30 had asked for some more time.

However, alongwith Tripura, Meghalaya was also has been given notice on this.  Tripura and Meghalaya owned Rs.550 crore as outstanding dues to NEEPCO.
