AGARTALA, April 12 (TIWN) : Basanti Puja, which is nothing but another name of Durga Puja (during Spring season), has been observed in many temples and households on the day of Maha-Shashti.
Reportedly, devotees thronged to Agartala Durga Bari to worship Goddess Basanti on Tuesday.
Basati puja has been remained as the main focus during spring season in Tripura especially for the Bengali section of people.
Basanti Puja– as the name suggests- is observed in the season of Spring
This puja is performed in the month of Chaitra in Bengali calendar which corresponds to March-April of English calendar.
Basanti Puja is an age old Bengali festival when Goddess Durga is worshiped by Bengali community in Tripura as well as other parts of India (mostly in Bengal) where Bengali families live in large numbers.
However, Basanti Durga Puja has lost its utmost importance since the time when Lord Rama is believed to have done untimely Durga Puja in autuman.
The puja –schedule is like for the year 2016 as:
1. April 12 : Maha-Shasthi,
2. April 13: Maha-Saptami,
3. April 14 : Maha-Astami,
4. April 15: Maha-navami,
5. April 16: Bijaya Dasami
It’s to be mentioned here that with the coming of spring season, state been has been celebrated various auspicious occasions for long 1 month.
Landlocked state Tripura which has preserved many cultured, enriched with tribal and Bengali traditional occasions has been cheered up with the festive- temperament.
However, here in Tripura the tribal and Bengali culture has been interlinked with each other and the ideals matches with each other’s mythological figures so much that the each and every occasions are now enjoyed by both the section of people. For example as Bengali people join in Garia Puja, the tribals are found in Poila Baishak & Basanti puja with full interest.
