AGARTALA, April 5 (TIWN): Protesting against the cut off in the allowance under the MGNREGA for Tripura, members of the ruling party organized a mass rally from Melarmath party office on Tuesday.

The rally walked across the city protesting over the cut off in the allowance under the MGNREGA for Tripura.

According to the reports, after Principal Secretary GSG Ayyangar failed to answer some MGNREGA related important question at Delhi, the central government has been actively seeking the actual MGNREGA status.

It is to be mentioned it is alleged that although state government is spending money in REGA but is unable to show the expenses.

It is further alleged that the state government has embezzled a huge amount of fund from the REGA scheme.

However, it is to be mentioned here that Central Government has lessen a total of 1, 92, 36000 man days.

The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), rechristened after Mahatma Gandhi, completed a decade this year since its launch at Bandlapalli village in Andhra Pradesh in 2006.

The MGNREGA was initiated with the objective of "enhancing livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year, to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work". Another aim of MGNREGA is to create durable assets (such as roads, canals, ponds, wells). Thus, employment under MGNREGA is a legal entitlement but it is seen that state government with their corrupt means has looted huge amount of money from the scheme.
