Preparation on peak to celebrate Bengali New Year

AGARTALA, April 5 (TIWN): Aiming to welcome the Bengali New Year with great enthusiasm, preparation is going on peak in the state.

Despite of price hike going on in the state people are trying to meet their needs for the upcoming celebration of the Bengali New Year.

It is to be mentioned here that Naba Barsha is the celebration of Bengali New Year which marks the first day of the Baisakh. Baisakh is the first month of Bengali calendar.

However, to welcome the New Year with enthusiasm people clean up their houses and decorate it with various colourful items including rangolis and alpanas in front of their houses.

Businessmen and traders purchase new accounting books and start new account known as Haalkhata. People also worship Lord Ganesha by chanting mantras.

The celebration of the Bengali New Year marked with joy, enthusiasm and hope. People celebrate the eve of Naba Barsha with enthusiasm and bid farewell to the past year.

The Bengali calendar is tied to the Indian solar calendar, based on the Surya Siddhanta. As with many other variants of the Indian solar calendar, the Bengali calendar commences in mid-April of the Gregorian year.

The first day of the Bengali year therefore coincides with the mid-April New Year in Mithila, Assam, Burma, Cambodia, Kerala, Manipur, Nepal, Odisha, Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu and Thailand.

However, people also exchange gifts with families and friends and with their close one. People prepare sweets visits the houses of the relatives and greet them. Children take blessings from the elder’s in their houses.

People from all spheres of life wear classic Bengali dress. Women wear saris, likewise, men prefer to wear panjabis.

However, families organize get together and enjoy meals together. Exchanges gifts and sweets in the beginning of the year.
