Festival of colours celebrated with gaiety all across the State

AGARTALA, March 24 (TIWN): State on Thursday celebrated festival of colours with great enthusiasm. People of various age groups plunged with various bright colours during the festival.

On this day, younger’s offer colours on the feet of the elders. Besides, people of same age group put colour on each other on this day.

The city has observed the day with great enthusiasm among all kinds of people. Youth are observed playing in their houses and also visiting their relative and friends houses.

Families are exchanging gifts and sweet on this occasion.

The festival of colours was celebrated with fun and frolic. Children splashed water balloons on one another. Even adults also indulged into fun and frolic activity.

Young revellers astride two wheelers and with their faces smeared with colours, were seen going around the streets singing and greeting people.

Joyous scenes were also witnessed in several residential colonies in the state capital with women and children also joining in the Holi revelry.

However, the festival of colours is among the major festivals and is the most vibrant. This festival is celebrated is all across the country even outside the country.

Holi also celebrates the arrival of spring, a season of joy and hope.

According to mythology, the tradition of 'Holika Dahan' is actually lighting of bonfires.

The ritual is symbolic of victory of good over evil and has its root in the legend of demon king Hiranyakashyap who wished to end his blessed son, Prahlad's life with the help of his sister, Holika who burnt in the fir and no harm occurred to Prahlad. Since then the day is celebrated in victory of good over bad.

The celebration of the festival of Holi has been attributed to various legends. Holi is also known by various names in different parts of India. Holi is known by various names like Lathmaar Holi, Dulandi Holi, Rangpanchami, Basant Utsav, Dol Purnima, Hola Mohalla, Shimgo, Kaman Pandigai and Phagu Purnima.
