AGARTALA, March 24 (TIWN): Along with the nation all the banks went on shut down from Thursday for four days in a row following the holidays in the state. Although some bank will carry out the internal works but transaction will not be done for next four days.
The four-day long weekend this week means people will not be able to conduct bank transactions from Thursday as even banks will remain closed. However, online transactions will be possible.
Banks will be closed for four days in row given the coming successive festivities. The holiday weekend begins with Holi on Thursday, followed by Good Friday and then the fourth Saturday of the month, a designated bank holiday.
Lenders however assured that ATMs would be fully loaded to meet cash needs.
Banks said they would try to ensure that all ATMs remained operational and loaded during these days so that people do not face a cash crunch during the extended weekend. People however can avoid a predicament by opting for online or card payments as much as possible.
IDBI Bank may be closed for an extra day if the strike call given by a section of its officers and employees on March 28 (Monday) materialises.
The staffers, belonging to the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA), are protesting the government’s move to privatise the bank.
Banks have said that they would ensure their ATMs would be loaded with sufficient cash. These days, most banks outsource their cash management at ATMs to third parties. Due to the advent of alternative channels like ATMs and online transactions, the impact of bank holidays and strikes is limited on the public.
In addition, IDBI bank employees have also called for a strike on Monday, March 28. The employees are opposing the proposed privatisation of the bank. The bank will therefore remain closed for an extra day on Monday.
All other banks will be open for business on Monday.
