Govt. to Purchase 2 to 2.5 acres of land for approach road of Feni Bridge

SABROOM, March 24 (TIWN) : Government has decided to purchase land for construction of Feni Bridge at Sabroom under South Tripura District through Sub Divisional Level Land purchase Committee. About 2 to 2.5 acres of land for approach road of Feni Brisge is required to be purchased immediately. An amount of Rs.7.50 crores is already placed with Land Acquisition Collector South Tripura.SDM Sabroom also requested to initiate land purchasing proposal for about 2 to 2.5 acres of land for approach road of Feni Bridge in Indian side in consultation with PWD and also request to send the required purchasing cost for the above mention land for according necessary.India and Bangladesh have already agreed to allow cargo movement through Chittagong sea port. The proposed bridge will connect southern Tripura border at Sabroom, just 72 km off Chittagong port, with Ramgarh town in Bangladesh. The four-lane bridge will also have related infrastructure like a four-lane approach road.This bridge would not only connect Tripura but also the whole of north-east region plagued by serious connectivity issues.

Landlocked Tripura has decided to construct a 150-metre bridge on river Feni at a cost of Rs. 110 crore to connect the State with Chittagong port in Bangladesh. To boost bilateral trade between the two countries, India will construct a four-lane bridge on Feni river in Tripura that would connect the state's South district with Chittagong division in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the central government has agreed to construct a Land Custom Station (LCS) at Sabroom adjacent to the neighboring country.The then Tripura Minister for Industries and Commerce Jitendra Chowdhury said after the construction of the bridge and the LCS at Sabroom would be completed, it would be a corridor for trade and commerce between Bangladesh and India's North-East.
