AGARTALA, March 23 (TIWN): On the occasion of Shaheed Diwas on March 23, State on Wednesday remembered martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru for their sacrifices.

To mark the day, All India Youth League has paid tribute to the statue of Bhagat Singh at the Airport.

Along with the capital various other parts of the state also observed the day.

The three great freedom fighters were hanged to death by the Britishers on this date.

Since then to honour their sacrifices given for getting India freed from the clutches of the British men, March 23 is observed in the country as Shaheed Diwas.

It is to be mentioned here that the Martyrs Day is also known as Shaheed Diwas or Sarvodaya Day which is observed on March 23, every year.  

On this day, Indians pay homage to martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru and remember their sacrifices.

The day is being observed as the trio has lost their life on this day in the year 1931.

The revolutionaries fought for the freedom of the country and were hanged to death by the British. On Shaheed Diwas, the entire nation honours their sacrifice to help gain freedom from the clutches of the British.

At a young age of 23 years, Bhagat Singh along with Batukeshwar Dutt threw two bombs inside the Central Legislative Assembly on April 8, 1929, from the Visitor's Gallery.

Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were charged with the murder. At the time of their execution, Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev were then just 23 while Rajguru was a year younger.

Their dead bodies were secretly taken out of the jail and were burnt on the banks of River Satluj.

However, the organization has also conducted a programme at Post Office Choumuhani. Besides, a discussion over the history of the death of the famous trio has been done.

Along with the state, other parts of state including Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, Teliamura, and others has also observed the day.
