AGARTALA, March 21 (TIWN): Task Force of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Tripura Police jointly on Monday staged an eviction drive at Dimsagar to evict illegally constructed houses on the government land.

Eviction of the houses constructed along the roadside at Dimsagar was carried out with an aim to vacant the government plot.  About two three houses were evicted from the spot.

With an aim to vaccant the government plot of land the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday conducted an eviction drive at Dimsagar area. More than 30 people have been evacuated from the area and were asked to shift into some other place.

Despite of several warnings the families had been continuing to construct housing sheds illegally. The AMC Task Force officer also told that the ongoing evacuation mission will continue everyday in other parts also as reduction sale has started.

In the coming days mission will continue, said the AMC official. Earlier, the AMC staged many eviction drives in the capital city including Battala, Paradise Chowmuhani, Kaman Chowmuhani and other places. During such drives, a vast number of houses along with roadside hawkers and illegally occupied shops were evicted in a recent past.

It is to be mentioned here that recently the Task Force of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has been continuing eviction drive at roadside hawkers from Kaman Chowmuhani, Melarmath, Paradise Chowmuhani and Post Office Chowmuhani.

The official further added that despite several prior notices, the hawkers continued to sell products on roadsides by capturing footpaths illegally. Earlier, many such eviction drives were conducted in the same area. But paying no attention, people have been continuing to stay here illegally.

Reportedly some traders also continue to encroach the footpaths along the road from post office chowmuhani to Kaman Chowmuhani, thus compelling the pedestrians to walk on the road thereby putting their lives to risk, but the authorities are still silent over their act.

Almost every day the road witness causalities due to accident in the area particularly as pedestrian are forced to walk on road due to encroached footpaths by the garments store, hotels and fast food stall owners.

Pertinent to mention here that after the widening of the road, in this particular area footpaths were made for the local people who were daily user of this road giving them safe passage to walk. But most of the public footpaths have been occupied by expanding the business establishment. Heaps of junk articles, clothes, displaying of banners and other articles has made the footpath almost invisible, creating inconvenience for pedestrians.

Due to this illegal occupation of footpath people find it troublesome to walk in this road.
