Foreign liquor worth Rs. 4.10 lakh seized at Churaibari check post: Smuggling goes rampant on Assam-Agartala road

AGARTALA, March 21 (TIWN): Just when counting days are left for the celebration of Holi, officials of Excise Department on Monday seized 200 cartons of foreign liquor from the Churaibari. According to the reports, Excise Department officials of Assam-Churaibari on Monday seized 200 cartons of foreign liquor. As per the market value the cost of the seized 200 cartons of foreign liquor is Rs. 4 Lakh 10 thousand. Sources mentioned that the Lori full of foreign liquor was heading towards the state from Guwahati. The excise department has been seizing many truckloads of liquor that were being smuggled into various parts of the state and also through Indo-Bangla border area.With just counting days are left for the celebration of Holi, the recovery of truck load of foreign liquor has triggered panic in the State.Although it has been announced that on March 23 all the liquor shop will remain close for the security purpose, but it seems like some illicit business men are gearing up for selling liquor in black market. Liquor smuggling has become rampant in the past many months. Besides, Churaibari check post and unfenced borders of Indo-Bangla has become a preferred gateway to smuggle liquor in cheap price from outside the state.

According to the direction of the West District Magistrate, it has been mentioned that on March 23 all the liquor shops will be remained close to avoid any kind of untoward incidents on the day.

Reportedly, there are some traders who continue to sell the liquors illegally.

However, the illegal trade of liquor during the celebration raises several problems for the passerby especially for the girls. Even teenagers create chaos on the road and in the crowded area.

Besides, many reports of accidents come up as the riders or the riders drive after consuming alcohol. Many a time the girls have to face harassment and are being teased on the road and in the crowded areas.

However, day by day the intrusion of illegal liquor has been going rampant in the State. Although number of vehicles including liquor and phensedyl consignments are seized but the deep rooted network are wide spread to be curbed.
