Spring brings fervor of festival among Tripura's Tribal & Bengali people

AGARTALA, March 21 (TIWN) : With the coming of spring season, state has been geared up to celebrate various auspicious occasions for long 1 month. Landlocked state Tripura which has preserved many cultured, is also enriched with tribal and Bengali traditional occasions.

Public here has been cheered up with the festive- temperament. People are busy in shopping and organizing households to celebrate the full month of March / April until the Bengali New Year.

However, here in Tripura the tribal and Bengali culture has been interlinked with each other and the ideals matches with each other’s mythological figures so much that the each and every occasions are now enjoyed by both the section of people. For example as Bengali people join in Garia Puja, the tribals are found in Poila Baishak with full interest.

The celebrations which are to mark in Tripura and as well as bringing  effects in business are :

Holi :  To mark occasion on 23rd March this year, when people will join together with colours (Abir), the shops of state have been decorated with holi related equipments. In Tripura and West Bengal, Holi is known by the name of "Dol Jatra", "Dol Purnima" or the "Swing Festival". The festival is celebrated in a dignified manner by placing the icons of Krishna and Radha on a picturesquely decorated  which is then taken round the main streets of the city or the village.

Ganga Puja : This tribal Puja is also held in the month of March-April. About 4 to 5 tribal villages join together to perform the Puja. Each tribal family gives subscription to meet the expenditure of the Puja. To perform the Puja they build a temple with bamboo just in the middle of the river. They sacrifice goats, buffaloes and ganders and pray to God to save them from any epidemic.

Garia Puja: The tribals of Tripura are ready to perform Garia Puja on the seventh day of the month of Baisakh (April). Both men and women are to performe this puja to propitiate the deity for blessings.

Basanti Puja : The most powerful Goddess considered in Bengali mythology Basanti is another form of Devi Durga. This puja gets its highest fervor at Udaipur, where Kings made Basanti Temple on the bank of Jagannath Lake.

Chitra Sankranti : This is the last day of the year which is popular for Ganjan and Charak Puja. Charak puja is a traditional Bengali festival celebrated mainly in the rural areas was also observed in some places in Agartala. A festival dedicated strictly to penance, Charak puja stands unique in the scenario of Bengali festivals.

Bengali New year : At the end it comes the Bengali New year which is to be celebrated on April 14, better known as Poila Boishakh, and the day is marked with singing, processions, and fairs. Traditionally, businesses start this day with a new ledger, clearing out the old. People of Tripura, West Bengal, Bangladesh even other counties too get together and enjoy on Poila Boishakh. All over the country people can enjoy fairs and festivals. Singers perform traditional songs welcoming the new year. People enjoy classical jatra plays. Like other festivals of the region, the day is marked by visiting relatives, friends and neighbors. People prepare special dishes for their guests.

 However, to welcome the occasions people are busy here in buying new dresses, various items for Puja celebration and business is at top in state’s market.
