AGARTALA, March 20 (TIWN): Despite of several initiatives taken by the Traffic Department to curb down the over load of passengers in Auto, yet unruly auto drivers continue to carry more that three passengers at one go.

Allegation has been raised that lack of awareness among the common mass and mostly the lack of strict law or official negligence are some of the major reasons behind the increasing number of road accidents.

Despite of Tripura High Court’s Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhasish Talapatra has directed to install point-to-point fares along auto-permits; most of the auto drivers all over the state continue to violate the high court’s order of point-to-point auto fare.

The attempt of auto drivers continues in spite of protest of common people. Sources said that earlier the lowest fare of auto was Rs.5 before Tripura High Court has ordered to implement the point-to-point auto fare. So far the lowest fare became Rs.10 with the implementation of the High Court’s order.

Even the passengers have to pay full fare if they leave the auto in the middle of the journey. On the other hand the passengers are being harassed if they protest about excess auto fare, complained the locals.

On the other hand, though it has been directed that only three passengers are allowed at one go.

Sources said that the list of auto fare is of no use for the passengers although affixing list on auto fare became mandatory according to order of Transport Department.

Interestingly, some of the auto drivers have just pasted the point-to-point rate chart for the namesake; none of them has effectively implemented the fare of the rate chart. Besides, keep on harassing the passengers in demanding hiked fare.

Therefore, the locals alleged that the administration has taken no initiatives to check the hike rate of the auto fare at present. The passengers demanded to take immediate action.
