TELIAMURA / AGARTALA, March 18 (TIWN) : The self help groups have been failed long back to bring economical progress here in Tripura and with that the great tribal tradition of making cloths has remained within the homes at backward areas, whereas if the women who know the art of making cloths can shine a lot if govt. helps them to show their talents in that field.
Although Tribals make their own dresses at household but this needs to be linked with business, which will not only inspire a large section of people into handloom business but it will also improve the state’s economy too.
TIWN had talked with a tribal woman named Laxmi Debbarma, who earns her livelihood with this handloom.
However, at villages women are found to doing income more than men with this profession. The women are running their families in self help.
But the people should take under the care of the Govt. of Tripura so that handloom business would open a scope for industrialization here in Tripura.
Women need to be more inspired in handloom business, so that they can share their skills with state’s economy.
It’s to be mentioned here that in Tripura, the green picturesque hilly land of mythology, has curved out a name for exquisite handicrafts items. The art of weaving occupies a very sacred place in the traditional life. The Tribal fabrics of Tripura are well known for their elegant design, bold color combination and lasting texture.
However, govt. claims that at present, Tripura is doing well with numerous small scale industries cropped up, together with production of handicrafts & handloom products, jute, and tea.
But talking to the women in urban and rural area, who are making cloths everyday at their households are not gifted with any kind of Govt. help.
