KAMALPUR, March 17 (TIWN): Book fair means the resurrection and development of literature. Although there remained enough scope for other branches of knowledge, but traditionally the literature remained to be the main centre of a book fair.

And so naturally, in a book fair where Benagli remains to be the main language, the 150th mark of Bengali fiction should have an important place. But, the organizers of 13th Kamalpur Book Fair not left an inch or not erected a single banner about the 150th anniversary of Bengali fiction.

However, the Bengali department of Kamalpur Government Degree College arranged for an International Seminar in this regard. The seminar would hold on 5th and 6th April next.

It might be mentioned here that, the 150th anniversary of Bengali modern literature got counted from the time of publication of historical romance novel “Durgeshnandini” by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1865. It was love-triangle between Jagat Singh, a Mughal general, Tilottama, the daughter of Bengali feudal lord and Ayesha, the daughter of a rebel Pathan leader against whom Jagat Singh was fighting. In the life time of Bankim Chandra it was last published din Bengali in 1893. However, many more editions of that fiction continued to be published till date. The fiction was also translated and published in English (1882). Hindustani (1876), Hindi (1882) and Kannada (1885). Hence, the mark of achievement demanded to have some place in the book fair.

But, the so-called rational and self-styled scientific organizers of the Book Fair decorated the fair ground with messages of renowned scientists and politicians. But, Bankim Chandra got no space in the rationalistic decorations and also not mentioned even for namesake.
