National School of Drama organizes ‘Bal Sangam’

AGARTALA, March 16 (TIWN): National School of Drama TIE Wing’s Campus on Wednesday organized a five-day long Bal Sangam at Nazrul Kalashetra.

The five-day long programme will start from 5pm in the evening and will continue till 8:30 pm.

To add fervour to the festivities, a total of eight states are going to perform to present the folk arts.

it has been mentioned that regional folk performances like Manipuri Tribal Dance, Pung Cholam, Maibi jagoi, Abhiyan Assam Log Bihu, Lailung khan, folk song from Rajesthan, Sufinna Kalam from Sarabuj, West Bengal patta Nach, jeng bihu, Ganesh Vandana from Jharkhand Monpa dance from Arunachal Pradesh and other performance will be done.

It has been mentioned that Bal Sangam in an effort to bring folk and urban face to face. It is an effort to expose the children and young citizens to real strength of Indian folk and traditional performing arts.

However, the National School of Drama is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world and the only one of its kind in India.

It was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as one of its constituent units in 1959.

However, in the year 1975, the it became an independent entity and was registered as an autonomous organization under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, fully financed by the Ministry of Culture.

Training in the School is highly intensive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus which covers every aspect of theatre and in which theory is related to practice.

It is to be mentioned here that the five-day long programme will also observe Jangda Singing, this is a ballad folk-form in which stories of battles and valour are sung. Mand Singing, this is a popular folk-form that includes wedding and welcome songs e.g. Kesaria Balam Padharo mhare des

Besides, Folk bhajans include the songs of Meerabai, verses of Kabir and Ravidas, Bhajans of Guru Masander etc. and many other programmes are also going to be performed.

During the programme, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has inaugurated the programme in the presence of Tourism Minister Ratan Kumar Bhowmik and others.
