100th Birth Anniversary of Late CPI-M leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet observed

AGARTALA, March 15 (TIWN): Keeping eyes on the completion of the 100th Birth Anniversary of Late CPI-M leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet, a programme has been organized on Tuesday at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.

Addressing the programme, National Communist leader Prakash Karat on Tuesday criticized the support of the RSS towards Hinduism.

Stressing over the issue, he said that RSS aims to spread Hindu as the first ideology in India creating religious barrier in a Country. A country where people of every religion are respected, here the RSS is trying to force Hinduism, added.

Condemning over the Hindu ideology of RSS, National Communist leader Prakash Karat stated that Left Front will raise voice against the religious barrier occurring in the country. The Left Front will take steps to remove the religious biasness.

Besides, Prakash Karat stated that RSS wants the era of ST, SC and OBC to exist. They never wanted that people should come out of the grouping of ST, SC and OBC.

Besides, he also mentioned that though the RSS do not say it directly but indirectly they want the same.

On the other hand, mentioning about the plenum organized last year, he said that Left front is focusing to strengthen the party. For now, the main focus is to grab the seat of Vidhan Sabha.

It is to be mentioned here that Harkishan Singh Surjeet was born in the year 1916 on March 23. He took his last breath in the year 2008. He was the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from 1992 to 2005 and was a member of the party's Political Bureau from 1964 to 2008.

Harkishan Singh Surjeet was born in 1916 in a peasant Jat family in the village of Ropawal, Jalandhar district of Punjab.

Born in a Sikh Jat family in Bundala, Jalandhar district, Surjeet started his political career in the national liberation movement in his early teens, as a follower of Bhagat Singh. In 1930 he joined the movement of Bhagat Singh, Naujawan Bharat Sabha.

During the programme, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and others has paid tribute to the of Late CPI-M leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet.
