AGARTALA, March 15 (TIWN): As alleged that Congress and CPI-M were forging an alliance in West Bengal to stave off their “crisis of existence", it is assumed that the alliance will also create an impact on the scenario of the upcoming 2018 Tripura assembly election. It is a crisis of existence for both Congress and CPI-M. Had it not been such a crisis, neither CPI-M would have sold its head off to Congress, nor would Congress have done so to CPI-M. Amidst talks of an alliance between the Marxists and the Congress in the ensuing Assembly election in West Bengal, the CPI-M and the Left Front seemed to be divided on the electoral tactical line in Bengal. As the West Bengal assembly election is coming near, a politics of compulsion is steadily pushing the CPI (M) and the Congress closer. The growing clamour for a pre-poll alliance between the Congress and the CPI (M) is left in unsolved stage in Tripura. The much talked CPI-M and congress alliance somewhat remains unsolved after CPI-M has push the ball in the court of congress. It is to be mentioned here that CPI-M has given an indirect signal to the Congress on the alliance issue throwing the ball in the court of congress.

To fight against Mamata in west Bengal, the CPI (M), in an effort to form a secular and democratic alliance against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP, made it clear that it would consider if an offer comes from the Congress which reveals that they will not approach to the parties for alliance thereby pushing the ball in the court of Congress.

Apart this alliance is a question to the society as there can’t be alliance where there is no similarity. Both CPI-M and congress has different ideology and strategy.

With the clamour for forging an alliance with Congress growing louder, majority of CPI (M) state committee members have spoken in favour of either an alliance or an electoral pact with Congress by stating "extraordinary situation demands historic decisions".

On the other hand it appears that Congress appeared to be losing grip of its role as opposition from Tripura where BJP is making inroads even as the Left firmed its hold in Tripura winning majority of the seats in both of the recently concluded election municipal as well as village committee election.

Wherever the Congress has won, the margins have either been very narrow or drastically cut down as compared to previous elections.

While the Congress tally came down in the election, the BJP candidates emerged as giant killers defeating the main opposition party state and bagging the second position into their account.

However, the election results in west Bengal is likely to impact the status of the upcoming Tripura assembly election scheduled to be held on 2018.
