Chief Minister & his ‘golden era’ : local residents condemn Manik Sarkar, hurled  'CM go-back' slogan, shown black flags at  Kunjaban Housing complex inauguration

AGARTALA, March 14 (TIWN): Inauguration programme of ASHRAY, Kunjaban for the pensioners turned chaotic when the local residnents led by opposition congress leader Panna Dey raised slogans “CM Go-Back” and swayed black flag to Manik Sarkar due to shabby treatment of local leaders by ruling CPI-M. Opposition party got agitated over the issue of non-invitation of the congress leader Sudip Roy Barman in inauguration program of the housing complex at Kunjaban. Local residents and congress supporters swayed black flags in front of the stage and raised slogans “CM-Go back”. However, the protest has turned the inaugural program into a chaos due to lack of courtesy from CPI-M leaders for not inviting opposition. Later with the intervention of police situation was brought under control. Local people shown black flags to Chief Minister and raised slogans against him. Sensing the gravity of the situation, the security was tightened in the spot. Agitating protestors criticised CM Manik Sarkar and also alleged that why the opposition party was not invited in the program.

The chaos began when opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman was not invited in the inaugural program. Just when the program started at Kunjaban, the congress leaders raised slogans against CM Manik Sarkar and raised slogans “CM Go Back”. With the situation going out of control, the leaders got engaged into a scuffle creating a hue and cry in the inauguration program. 

Taking action against the agitators, police force asked agitators to leave the spot and later protestors were thrown out from the inauguration program.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the housing complex of 100 seated pensioners Awaas (ASHRAY) at Kunjaban for pensioners and family pensioners. The total cost of the project was Rs1028 lakh aand the expenditure incurred was Rs 970 lakh. The construction work began in the year 2012 and was completed on December 2014.

The implementing agency behind the construction is Tripura housing and construction board.  The entire building is four storied and the plinth re of each floor is 927.17sqm. The total plinth area is 3888.68 sqm. There are 42 double bedded room and 4 four bedded room in the housing complex.

The complex also have auditorium with 108 capacities.

However, CM Manik Sarkar, Minister Bijita Nath long with other people remained present in the program.
