UDAIPUR, March 14 (TIWN) : Although rubber-business is undergoing huge losses in Tripura due to slump-down of global rubber prices, but the rubber gardens created in past decades across Tripura are polluting the environment, lives of lakhs of people at a stake. Pollution by excessive rubber gardening is rampant at Gomati Dist. mostly, in ADC areas like Killa, Korbook, Jampui Jala, Raiyabari etc. The Rajnagar area at Udaipur, where the old royal palace is situated, is badly plagued by massive rubber plantations as CPI-M supporters occupied the Gomati river bank and converted it into rubber garden. It’s to be mentioned here, Tripura’s Forest Minister Naresh Jamatia and his family, resident of Killa, Gomati Dist, it is alleged that Minister is owner of many rubber gardens. Excess Rubber Plantations to be blamed for many negative effects on Tripura - its climate, drying up of rivers, soil erosion, diseases, destruction of eco system, natural habitats etc.

Rubber gardens in Rajnagar, Udaipur is basically based on the river banks of Gomati, damaging the water quality and destroying the natural environment at there, as it’s scientifically proven that the areas, occupied by rubber plantation is abandoned by all kinds of natural creatures.

No bird or animal goes into rubber garden, also grasses never grow there. As a result rubber continues to spoil the natural environment there.

So it can be said that the authorities sitting in Ministerial positions and the lameduck District Magistrate, are not at all concerned about the increasing pollution in the state.

However, it’s to be mentioned here that all the tea gardens and bamboo plantation has become a by-gone era in Tripura under left regime.

However, only good news for environment is that presently, rubber business is at a loss in Tripura and there is no hope that rubber can again get back its business here.

Udaipur river banks look green with rubber forestry, in reality surroundings are green only by huge amount of rubber plantations.

Rubber damages whole environment, not only the air, but its soil too, even though people unaware of damages.
