AGARTALA, March 11 (TIWN): Giving a call of non-alliance with CPI-M in the state, the Tripura Pradesh congress on Friday at the civil secretariat filed nomination of candidate for the ensuing loan seat of Rajya Sabha election in Tripura scheduled to be held on March 21.

Congress has filed this nomination to give a call that they are not into alliance with CPI-M in the state. PCC chief Birajit Sinha, opposition leader Ratan nath and others remained present.

The Congress decided to put up a candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections for one seat; after the Election Commission announced a fresh date for election on March 21. However, PCC chief Birajit’s blued eyed boy, the leader of North district Jotirmoy Nath has filed nomination as the candidate for the Rajya Sabha election.

Although the congress president Birajit Sinha had prepared a panel of 5 candidates to file nomination for the election, however finally Jotirmoy Nath has filed the nomination.

It is to be mentioned here that despite of knowing that the Rajya Sabha seat will be claimed by the CPI-M candidates Congress has taken this step just to prove that they are not into alliance with CPI-M in the state.  Only on the hope of cross voting congress has filed nomination of candidate for the Rajya Sabha Election.

The election commission issued the notification and according to the circular published by the election commission of India the seat of Rajya Sabha from Tripura will fall vacant on April 2, this year, when the tenure of the incumbent member Jharna Das Baidya will expire.

According to Election Commission announcement a formal notification for the election issued on March 4, the last date for filing of nomination is March 11, 2016. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on March 12 and the last date for withdrawal is March 14, 2016.

Tripura’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist has re-nominated Jharna Das Baidya as its candidate for the March 21 Rajya Sabha polls.  The election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat comes as Baidya’s six year term ends on April 2.  Jharna Das Baidya’s name was selected unanimously for the Rajya Sabha elections in the CPI-M state committee meeting.

Before being elected to upper house of parliament, Baidya had served as the chairperson of the State Social Welfare Board. The 53-year-old woman leader belongs to the Scheduled Caste community.
