AGARTALA, March 11 (TIWN): "The expansion project of Agartala Airport is on final stage", confirms Airport Director of Agartala on Thursday. Talking to TIWN correspondent on Thursday, Airport Director of Agartala said that the expansion work of the Agartala Airport is under progress. Further, he mentioned that the tender under the Project Management Consultant is on its final stage. With the completion of work under the Project Management Consultant, next tender will be given for the construction work. Speaking about the detail work of the Project Management Consultant, sources said that the consultant is looking up the requirement of materials during the construction work of the Airport Expansion. After the completion of the work of Project Management Consultant, the next tender will be given to the agency who will constructing for Airport expansion. Reportedly, the project had been started with the investment Rs. 338 crore.

It is worthy to be mentioned here that the state government has already handed over required land for facelift work of the Agartala airport.

However, the much awaited expansion project includes extension of runway to successfully accommodate wide bodied aircraft and to improve the passenger’s amenities.  

As a part of the expansion plan, a total of four aero bridge provisions are likely to be there in the new terminal building. However, this bridge can handle 1000 passengers on both departure and arrival at a time.

Besides, four conveyors belt is also expected to be inducted in the new terminal.

Earlier it has been mentioned that the new terminal building is expected to be of double in size the existed one. Besides, the apron would be four times bigger than the current size. 

Further, it has been mentioned that the estimate cost for constructing the new terminal building is expected to be around Rs. 250 crore. Besides, in order to beef up the security in the Airport, 87 CCTV cameras have been installed in the airport.

However, the expansion of the Agartala Airport has been the much awaited dream of the common mass which is going to be true and to meet the deadline the progress of work is going on in full swing.
