AGARTALA, March 10 (TIWN): Demanding to stop privatisation moves and resolve the long pending issues of the employees, Tripura Gramin Bank on Thursday called for two days strike.
The two days long strike is in support of the demands and to protest against alleged moves to privatize the RRB.
This strike is observed as a part of the two-day nationwide strike from Thursday in support of the demands of regional rural banks employees' unions for protest against alleged moves to privatize the RRB.
According to the reports, there are 56 banks under RRB. All the banks have called for two days long strike.
The strike is expected to hit the working for four consecutive days of the Tripura Gramin Bank as the two days long strike will be followed by second Saturday and Sunday.
Raising voice against the privatisation of Banks, the General Secretary of Tripura Gramin Bank Employees Association said that the RRB’s deals with the rural people. Therefore, if the banks are privatised than the poor will be mainly hit with.
It will be a major loss for the poor people as well. Besides, he also mentioned that the pensions of the employees are getting very less pension which should be increased.
The recent amount of the pension is Rs. 1600 to 1700 which is very less for leading life in the era of inflation.
Besides, the General Secretary of Tripura Gramin Bank Employees Association mentioned that if the Central Government do not respond to the strike than they are going to call fo0r massive strike in the coming days.
However, with the strike the banking serve to the rural people has got disrupted leading to four days of hang around.
It is to be mentioned here that Tripura Gramin Bank is not only Tripura's own bank but it is also the sheet anchor for the people of the state in terms of dedicated banking service.
Tripura Gramin Bank which is a Regional Rural Bank was established in the year 1976 on the month of December 21 in terms of provisions of Regional Rural Banks Act 1976. The bank is sponsored by United Bank of India & is jointly owned by the Government of India, Government of Tripura and UBI.
