AGARTALA, March 9 (TIWN): Authorities were conducting awareness programmes over 'No Smoking Day' in the State, several areas of Ganja plantation are yet growing unchecked. It is to be mentioned here that the state is where observing No Smoking Day and organizing several awareness camps, Ganja Plantation stands a serious problem. Ganja plantation has been flourishing in various interior parts of the State. Even though thousand hemp of illegal ganja plantation have been destroyed by the Depart of the state, the plantation is yet flourishing in the interior parts of the State. Sonamura Sub-division is also among one of the area where Ganja Plantation is being done excessively. People cultivate the Ganja plants and do business for crores and also smuggle to Bangladesh to fetch hefty amount of money. Reportedly, despite of prolonged many days of continues business of Ganja Plantation in that area, the department seems less interested to curb it down.Although, at the time when Subhasis Das Chakraborty was the SDM of the Sonamura several drives had taken place to curb down the Ganja plantation, but the situation has beome worse presently. At that period, Sonamura Sub-Divisional Administration staff along with BSF personnel jointly carried out destruction operation over Ganja Plantation at Chandicherra area of Dakshin Taibandal ADC Village under Mohanbhog R D Block and many other parts.

Allegation has been raised that the former SDM of Sonamura Sub-division now posted as Kamalpur and SDM Subhasis Das Chakraborty has been intentionally transferred from Sonamura, as he was actively conducting drive against the ganja plantation.

According to the sources reports, Cannabis is mainly grown in the Indo-Bangla Border area like Sonamura, Boxonagar and outskirts of Agartala so that the miscreants can easily smuggle the plants through border. It has been mentioned that cultivators even use power-tillers, fertilizers and irrigation facilities, resulting in high yielding bushes.

Besides, a large number of villagers in the particular area of Putia and Manikya nagar under Kalamchaura police station cultivate Ganja and smuggle it to Bangladesh as it brings back huge amount of money from the trespassing of Ganja.

Cannabis is grown on a large scale in interior and inaccessible areas of the region, particularly in Sonamura and Boxanagar and also in many parts of the State.

It is to be mentioned here that the authority organizes several awareness camp to spread awareness among the mass to be cautious about the health related issues and to avoid harmful and addicted ingredients.

Similarly, if they would have shown the effort of destroying the cannabis in the interior parts of the State, then it would have helped to curb down the rampant cannabis cultivation.
