State NSS Cell observes International Women’s Day

AGARTALA, March 8 (TIWN): State NSS Cell on Tuesday observed International Women’s Day at Matangini Pritilata Hall.

At the programme, seminar cum cultural programme has been organized. During the programme, contribution of armed forces Flag Day fund, 2015 has been donated by the NSS units of Tripura.

During the programme, the dignitaries mentioned that it would have been appreciable if people would have celebrated the day the throughout the year, recognising the achievements of women on International Women’s Day.

It is to be mentioned here that this year the theme of the International Women’s Day is ‘Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality’.

The idea of the theme is expected to be achieved by the year 2030. Several initiatives is expected to be taken to make the theme effective.

However, by the year 2030 it is expected to ensure equality among the girls and boys in every sector including education, job and other things.

The focus of the celebration of the day is to show respect to the women and girls in the society.

The day is observed also to show respect to the women and girls who had created history. Besides, this day also reminds people about the importance of the women in the society and in many accomplishments.

It is to be mentioned here that International Women’s Day was first celebrated on February 28, 1909 in America, which saw thousands of women marching in New York in defiance at work inequalities.

During the programme, Education (Sports and Youth Affairs) Minister Sahid Chowdhury has inaugurated the programme in the presence of Dulal Chandra Das Director of Youth Affairs and Sports, Social Worker Rupa Ganguly and others.
