AGARTALA, March 8 (TIWN): With just the beginning of another year, reports of rape and murder hit the safety and security of the girls in the State.

It is to be mentioned here that day by day reports of rape, domestic violence and kidnapping of girl and women are increasing.

Ministerial authority where claims that the crime against women are decreasing day by day, on the other hand, everyday reports of rape incident or kidnapping of any girl flashes on the news channels.

Although the State Government has established several women police station to curb down the harassment over the women in the state yet domestic violence is going high in the State.

Recently, a minor of ninth standard has been kidnapped on Thursday and has been rapped. Police on Saturday recovered the minor girl. Similarly, there are several incidents of minor rape and domestic violence.

When the crimes against women had already taken a top most position in Tripura, the State Government is least bothered to look in to the situation.

It is worthy to mention that the Tripura Government has been taking initiatives to increase the police personnel in the state, but the crime rate of the state are yet to curb.

Cases of crimes against women in Tripura are rising. In 2011, 1,503 such cases were registered while the number went up to 1,650 in 2012 and 1,706 in 2013. Beside, from April 2013 to March 2014, the number of case relating to the women registered at 848.

However, the problem of gender based violence is getting worse day by day in the State. Most of the crime including eve-teasing or harassment and heckling and sexual innuendoes against women in public places including streets, public transport, and cinema halls, along with the rape of minors and women in tribal and villages often goes unreported and unrecorded.

Therefore, the crimes against women are rising day by day. Besides, in an attempt to curb the crime against women, despite of taking several initiatives by the State Government every initiative has proved ineffectual.
