AGARTALA, March 6 (TIWN): With the aim to select member for Rajya sabha election scheduled to be held on March 21st, CPI-M state committee on Sunday organised a meeting at the party office.

With the declaration of the notification for the Rajya Sabha election, the CPI-M state committee is all set to decide the name of the candidate for the Rajya Sabha member.

Although the name of the candidate will be declare only in a press met.

However, the source further said that the meeting will also discuss about the status of the village committee election results.

As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) is concerned, polling would be conducted on March 21 between 9 AM to 4 PM. Election notification is already published on March 4, 2016. However, the candidates can give nominations till 11 March at the secretariat building and scrutiny will be done on 12March.  The nomination paper can be withdrawn by 14 March. The election to Rajya Sabha member will hold on 21 March at the lobby of assembly building.

Elections to a total of 13 Rajya Sabha seats from Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Punjab would be held on March 21. Officials said the President of India and the Central Election Commission have issued separate notifications for these elections.

The CPI-M state committee meeting on Sunday is expected to make the final decision of Sunday.  However, the meeting will also held several other discussion including evaluation of the VC election, alliance with Congress and other forums will also be discussed in the meeting.

The source further said that the party has decided two names including Gautam Das and Badal Chowdhury.

The incumbent Rajya Sabha MP of Tripura, Jharna Das Baidya’s tenure would be completed on April 2, 2016.
