AGARTALA, March 5 (TIWN): In a bizarre incident about 15 house and 7 shops were burnt into ashes when massive broke out in a slum adjacent to Hindi higher secondary school on Saturday afternoon. Several people were injured in the incident. On information, five fire-fighting units along with SDPO Rajendra Datta rushed to the area and brought the flame under control after an hour of tussle in the area. The fire brigade with the help of 5 fire tenders brought the fire under control. It is suspected that many slum dwellers were trapped in the fire. According to latest reports, few have been admitted to the nearest hospital, some are said to have suffered extensive burn injuries. The fire brigade and police are trying to remove the slum dwellers safely from the area. A source said that the fire sparked from short circuit in a shop and in a while the flames spreaded in the entire slum and at least burnt 15 houses so far along with 7 shops.

The control room got a call about the blaze following which five fire tenders were immediately rushed to the site.Efforts were on for more than one hour to douse the flames; he said adding that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

A major fire broke out in the slum area adjacent to Hindi school which reportedly got sparked from short circuit in a shop.

Life came to stalled when massive fire broke out in the slum as the houses in the slums are congested and the fire took bad shape in the area.

However, an old man also succumbed to injuries when the man came in contact with the sudden fire break out.

 The injured was immediately rushed to hospital. The people of the slum on Saturday escaped death when massive fire broke out in the village. Panic prevailed in the area for more than hours, however, after hours of struggling the fire was brought under control with the effort from the fire tenders.

Reportedly, the incident took place in the afternoon when a localite of the area witnessed smoke spreading wide from the shop and flames rising high and immediately called people around for help.

Preliminary investigation says that the fire broke out in the shop from short circuit and with the wind the fire spreaded in the hay.

Getting alarm about the fire incident huge police force along with 5 fire service crew reached the spot and after several attempts brought the fire under control. Fortunately the fire fighters reached the spot on time and contained the fire that prevented the flames to spread to the other parts of the area.
