AGARTALA, March 5 (TIWN): Department Industry and Commerce on Saturday organized a seminar on Development of Tripura Tea Industry – Scope for speciality tea at Pragna Bhawan.
It is to be mentioned here that the programme was organized with the initiatives of the Department Industry and Commerce and Luxmi Tea Company private limited.
The seminar was organized with the objectives to develop the tea industry and the production of Tea in Tripura.
Besides, at the programme, the history of Tripura tea, market trends and perception of Tripura teas were discussed.
Field practices for quality harvest in general and specifically for speciality tea manufacturing in Tripura context, manufacturing of speciality tea for sustenance of Tripura tea industry, contribution of small tea growers in Tea industry for quality production of tea, scenario of small tea growers in Tripura were also discussed at the seminar.
However, tea plantation in Tripura was started under Royal Administration in the beginning of 20th Century. Tea Industry was started in Tripura by people of East Bengal unlike Assam where tea-plantation was started by British.
For the production of tea in Tripura the agro-climatic conditions suitable. Besides, the average rainfall of about 210 cm also suits the plantation.
It is to be mentioned here that there is considerable scope to increase the productivity and area under tea plantation.
Reportedly, the tea produced in Tripura is recognized for its good blending qualities. Besides, plantation for organic production of tea is also going on in the states.
However, the programme Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the programme in the presence of Industry and Commerce Minister Tapan Chakraborty, Chief Secretary Yashpal Singh and others.
