Two-day long National seminar on educating tribal children observed

AGARTALA, March 5 (TIWN): A two-day long National seminar on educating tribal children: issues and remedies with special reference to Tripura have been organized at Pragna Bhawan.

The programme has been organized with the initiatives of the IASE, Kunjaban in collaboration with and sponsored by Tribal Research and Cultural Institute.

It has been mentioned that Education is the most important instrument for Tribal development and has a great significance. Education is in fact, an input not only for economic development of tribes but also for inner strength of the tribal communities which helps them in meeting the new challenges in life.

The main objectives of the seminar is to review overall situation of tribal education in Tripura, to discuss problems related to tribal education and tribal children in general, to understand the status of primary education among tribal children in Tripura, to understand the effect of different schemes related to education and tribal education, to get the status of school dropout with special reference to factors affecting enrolment and retention of tribal students, to review the status of teachers in tribal areas including their availability, background, qualifications, training, punctuality and problems.

Besides, to identify gaps and to come out with the strategies to overcome challenges faced by the tribal education in Tripura, Administrative efforts regarding tribal education in Tripura, Status of tribal girl education in Tripura and effect of multilingualism among tribal students of Tripura.

On the second day technical sessions will be held on the same topic.

However, the programme was inaugurated by Tribal Welfare Minister Aghore Debbarma in the presence of Professor of Santiniketan Prof. Tarak Nath Pan, Director of Tribal Research and Cultural Institute Sunil Debbarma and others.
