If the CRS clears it, a regular passenger train service would be launched on the newly laid broad gauge tracks up to Agartala in Tripura and Jiribam in Manipur.NFR is all set to conduct the CRS inspection to ensure safety of the track which is newly converted from Metre gauge to Broad gauge.

It is to be mentioned here that the newly converted BG rail track of two sections- Badarpur to Kumarghat and Kumarghat to Agartala would undergo CRS inspection by the end of February or early March, as claimed by the sources.

Amidst a cultural program in Silchar, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu also flagged off the Poorvottar Sampark Kranti weekly express train at 2 pm from Silchar Railway Station on Saturday.

He also flag off the first commercial BG freight train to Jirania in Agartala and the first BG freight train to Jiribam in Manipur via video conferencing from the Silchar Railway Station.

Now, the NFR authority is carrying out finishing works in two sections- Badarpur to Kumarghat and Kumarghat to Agartala to pave the way for running commercial passenger train service.

Keeping the proposed Railway Budget in mind, the state government has already demanded to introduce super-fast trains connecting Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai with Agartala.

The much awaited dream of Broad-gauge conversion work is going in full swing at various railway tracks of Agartala.
