Pollution in Howrah River worsen, authority playing role of silent spectators

AGARTALA, February 20 (TIWN): Various organization where organizing several awareness programme on water conservation, authority is least bothered to take any kind of initiatives to curb the rising pollution on the Howrah river.

It is to be mentioned here that for prolonged many days, every time the authority claims that they are taking initiatives to control the pollution but in reality the river water is yet dirty and in various parts of the river garbage are observed on the embankment of the river.

Even though the State Government has taken initiatives to provide sanitation facility to the families resided on the river bank to keep the river clean yet the pollution of the river is worsening day by day.

Besides, initiatives have also been taken to do bamboo cultivation to control the erosion of river banks.

It is worthy to mention that the Forest Department it taking initiatives to control the erosion of bank of the Howrah River but the problem of the river does not end here, the river is also facing threat of major water pollution and so far the river water is worsening day by day.

Earlier decision was taken to remove all the kaccha latrines from the bank of the river but till day in many areas people are seen practising open defecation.

Reportedly, the river water is getting polluted day by day in the capital due the regular dumping of garbage over the river or on the bank which later roll down and fall in to the river leading to water pollution.

Reportedly, people residing at the embankment of the Howrah River have been dumping the waste at the river making the water dirty and smelly environment including the vendors and shop owners.

However, Howrah River’s Pollution is now at such a high level that the amount of toxins, chemicals and other dangerous bacteria found in the river are now almost threatening a danger to the lives of the people.
