"Facebook Friends in Action" team visits Chachu Bazar Rape Victim's family

AGARTALA, Feb 20 (TIWN): A group of seven representing the“Facebook Friends in Action” (FFA), Tripura including two lady members visited Sidhai Police Station of West Tripura in the forenoon of the 19thFebruary, 2016 to appraise theprogress in investigation so far in thematter of the Chachu Bazar rape case of a 14 years girl on the 26thJanuary, 2016. The team was led by Mr Achintya Kumar Sinha and Mr Pratap Dutta. The group was lucky to have Mr. Jyotishman Das Choudhury, Sub-Divisional Police Officer along with the Officer-in-Charge, Sidhai Police Station Mr. Subrata Debnath.The discussion of the visiting group with the two police officers covered all aspects of the investigation, actions taken and the plan ahead.

  It was learnt that Ms Olivia Debbarma, Dy.S. P. (Crime against Women in West Tripura District) is the Investigating Officer of the case. Athens Debbarma, one of the two accused,has already arrested while the otherone Sunil Debbarma is absconding.Athens Debbarma has beeninterrogated extensively revealing salient aspects of the case.

 Police stations throughout Tripura as well asin other states of the country havebeen alerted with the photograph ofthe accused for his arrest. Police has already received the preliminary medical report; and they are awaiting the Forensic Science Laboratoryfindings.

The team visited the home of the victim guided by a police constable around midday and interacted with the family members. The victim has been attending her school since the 17th February, 2016. 

 Her brother Raju, an employee in a hotel in Agartala, confirmed over phone that he received Rs.50,000/- by cheque from BJP by and Rs.10,000/- as reimbursement from the Office of Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital after the victim’s dischargefrom GB Pant hospital, Agartala. Twomembers of the Village Councilvisited the family and assured help and support to the family.

However inactions and apathy of State Women Commission till date regarding the issue are surely condemnable. All social activists of “Facebook Friends in Action” (FFA), Tripura have welcomed the decision of Hon'ble High Court of Tripura too lodge a suo moto PIL for addressing insensitity of the Hospital authorities and state administration as a whole towards this raped minor indigenous girl.

On behalf of this social activists group, the spokesperson Mr Sukh Ranjan Saha have thanked all good hearted citizens and media friends who have spontaneously come forward to demand justice for the Chachu Bazar raped victim and assured that the group shall continue to take up such issues in interest of natural justice of oppressed people of the state. Indeed a new era of social activism has started in Tripura.
