AGARTALA, Feb 19 (TIWN): State Congress spokesperson Dr Ashok Sinha on Friday in a press meet at press club said that the JNU incident is unnecessarily made an international issue with the intervention of the central government rather than keeping it to the authority of the university.

Addressing the media on Friday he further said that it’s an issue of university campus why police was made to interfere into the incident when there was no report of any riot and murder.

Condemning the attack on the Journalist at JNU row, Sinha said that freedom of media is question in the incident where the journalists were also attacked at Delhi. Violence broke out between lawyers and journalists at the Patiala House Court in New Delhi on 15 February afternoon. The incident took place as the president of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)'s student union was due to be appearing on charges of sedition for his role in an event hosted at the university.

He further said the left front did exactly what they wanted to do from this incident. They received exposure; they showed what they stand for and also won against the most powerful Modi.  Those who screamed against the students and those who supported the students, played into the hands of the CPI-M. A small incidence was blown out of proportion, the social media added more fuel into it. Round goes to the CPI-M.

However, criticising the role of Home Minister, sinha claimed that his action into the incident was wrong.

Sinha said that one single action of sending police turned this issue into an international issue. He also said that what was the need to send police was when there was no emergency. The Government could have asked the Vice Chancellor to take appropriate action after proper investigation. Apart, they could have created pressure on the University administration to throw out a few students from the Varsity.

But one single action of involving police has turned the incident, where people will gossip about the incident for months and as per the law Kanhaiya would come out a free man and a hero. When Kanhaiya would be released unconditionally from the court he will become the hero of the nation, and what is the benefits of idolizing such character, added Sinha.

Slamming central government, Sinha said only due to the immature steps a university incident has turned into an international issue.
