AGARTALA, Feb 18 (TIWN): As the days are coming near, the rail authority is busy in giving final touch up for joining the BG track panel at Agartala railway station. Looking forward to faster conversion work, a Flash butt welding machine is bought from outside the state to join the track panels at different spots. The machine is brought from outside the state to join a total of 110 KM of track in Tripura. The machine has already established it work from Agartala railway station and is now currently moving towards Bisalgarh for joining the track panel. The sources further said that the panel joining work is in full swing at different spots of Tripura. At one go they can join up to 20 to 35 panel track, said the workers engaged in working at the railway track. The workers engaged at the track joining work say that it is a type of resistance welding without using any filler metal. It is used for joining two metal parts together using heat and force. Each of the two parts of the track panel to be joined is clamped against an electrode, usually a copper alloy. The electrodes themselves being connected to the secondary side of a transformer and the ends are brought slowly together until they just touch.

However, a voltage used is generally low (typically between 4 and 20 volts) but the current usually remains very high. The heat generated raises the temperature of either side of the joint. Once the temperature is above the forging temperature the ends are rapidly pushed together with great force.

The much awaited dream of Broad-gauge conversion work is going in full swing at various railway tracks of Agartala.

With the successful run of the railway service between Lumbding and Silchar Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is working hard at much more faster pace to bring Agartala under the country’s Broad Gauge Network by March 2016.

The successful run of the trains on the broad-gauge track will bring sync with those in the rest of the country and Tripura is gearing up for faster connectivity and communication with several parts of the nation.

In order to make the Agartala Railway Station as perfect station, different works including extension of platforms, creation of new platforms and installation of new BG rail tracks, joining of panel have started.
