AGARTALA, Feb 17 (TIWN): Railroad crews are still finishing work on the tracks, installing new switches and making other final adjustments before the trains start to roll. With an aim to meet the deadline and to complete the construction work on time, workers are continuing with the work in a full-fledged manner. According to the reports, the history of railway in Tripura began in the year 1964 with the extension of 31 Km long railway line from Kalkalighat to Dharmanagar.Later, the track was extended to Kumarghat at a distance of 32 Km in the year 1990. However, by the year 1997 the new broad gauge railway line of 109 kilometres from Kumarghat – Agartala has been sanctioned. However, in Tripura Metre Gauge has started in the year 2008.With the Gauge Conversion of Lumding – Badarpur – Kumarghat this section of Kumarghat - Agartala is also being converted to BG and this work is nearing completion. If everything falls in right place, the CRS inspection will be done in February or by early March and running passenger train depends on the reports of CRS inspection. If the CRS gives green signal, the track will be ready for introducing BG passenger train service by March itself. Now, the NFR authority is carrying out finishing works in two sections- Badarpur to Kumarghat and Kumarghat to Agartala to pave the way for running commercial passenger train service.
The much awaited dream of Broad-gauge conversion work is going in full swing at various railway tracks of Agartala.
With the successful run of the railway service between Lumbding and Silchar Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is working hard at much more faster pace to bring Agartala under the country’s Broad Gauge Network by March 2016.
With the introduction of the BG facility, one could return from Guwahati to Agartala, capital town of the landlocked State –Tripura in a journey spanning around eight hours and if things fall in place, the ongoing work of BG conversion work from Lumding to Agartala via Badarpur would be completed shortly.
With the everyday progress in the conversion work, the common mass of the state is observing a ray of hope for faster communication and transportation by March 2016.
