AGARTALA, Feb 15 (TIWN): Raising voice against the JNU incident, State BJP in collaboration with Tripura University holds a rally and demonstrated at the campus of Tripura University on Monday. The rally began from M.tech building and moved across the Tripura university campus. However, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha BJYM also organised a rally across the city which began from BJP office and ended at Colonel Chowmuhani raising voice against the issue at JNU.It is to be mentioned here that The Jawaharlal Nehru university turned into a battleground as the Right and Left clashed when a group of Left-oriented students called a meeting to commemorate the “judicial killing” of Afzal Guru, who was hanged on February 9, 2013 for his role in the 2001 attack on Parliament, and the lesser-known co-founder of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Maqbool Bhat, who was hanged in 1984, are “martyrs” in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).The situation turned violent and the administration had to call in the police. A poster, which was pasted all across the campus, read: “There will be an art and a photo exhibition portraying the history of the occupation of Kashmir and the people’s struggle against it.”

Interestingly, the commemorative meeting went ahead even after the JNU administration revoked permission for the programme in the wake of complaints from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

JNU has not taken any action against students that organized the Afzal Guru commemoration.  The issue went viral on social media; 'ShutDownJNU' kept trending through the day.

This came in the wake of clashes between student organisations that rocked the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus on after a group of students organised a protest meet to celebrate Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front co-founder Maqbool Bhat. The varsity administration ordered a probe into the incident.
