AGARTALA, Jan 14 (TIWN): Altogether five nominated members of Agartala Municipal Corporation on Saturday have taken oath at City Centre.

Reportedly, the nominated members are Shyamal Dey, Bipad Bandhu Hrishi Das, Chandra Mohan Saha, Bimal Rudra Paul and Fazrul Rahman.

However, in the recently held Municipal Election Left Front Party has swept all the 45 seats among 49 seats.

Left Front led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on the recent civic poll swept the civic polls across the state, winning 291 among 310 seats all across the State.

Among all the 886 candidates, including 429 women, from all parties contested the civic polls.

However, in the recently held Municipal election Congress has manage to captures 13 seats among 310 and BJP somehow manages to grab only 4 leaving others with two seats in the civic poll.

Altogether 657 polling booths were set up. Besides, the total number of Candidates are 886, among them 272 candidates are of Congress, 273 are of Left Front and 255 candidates are of BJP.

A total of six candidates each had contested election from Forward bloc, RSP and CPI. Apart from this, for the Municipal election 32 candidates contested from Trinamool Congress Party, one from CPI-ML, Amra Bangali- 17 and five candidates from Tripura People’s Party.

A total of 537,968 people, including 268,754 women, have cast their votes in the municipal elections.

The 144-year-old Agartala Municipal Corporation is the oldest municipal body in the north-eastern region. The Agartala municipality, which turned into a corporation two years back, was constituted in 1871.

In the year 2014 the Agartala Municipal Council has turned to Agartala Municipal Corporation.
