UDAIPUR, Jan 8 (TIWN): Aiming to bring the past glory of the old rajbari located at Udaipur, retrofitting work has gained momentum. However, to swell the flow of the tourist the construction agency has geared up with the retrofitting work of the old rajbari at Udaipur.

The Old Rajbari (Royal Palace), one of the most important archaeological sites and once the attractive tourist spot of Tripura, is in dilapidated condition due to the lacklustre attitude of the Government to preserve Tripura’s ancient historical places.

Although the retrofitting work has begin at Udaipur, but this work is progressing very slowly and there is no much improvement in the retrofitting work.

The retrofitting work should be finished as fast as possible so that the tourists may enjoy this North East state and its historical monuments and culture.

It is to be mentioned here that an agency named as Intouch is engaged in the retrofitting work of the palace. Apart from the retrofitting work, ticket counter, toilet and canteen will also be built in the site.

The retrofitting work is aimed at increasing the footfall of the tourist in the spot as it is one of the efficient spot in the state and relates much to the golden history of Tripura.

During the early time Udaipur was the erstwhile capital of the state and was known as Rangamati. Ranindranath Tagore mentioned the name of Bhubaneswari Temple in his novel Rajarshi. And thus it became famous the world over. In 2013 state govt decided to revive the structure of Bhubaneswari temple as per its original structure. Accordingly Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Ltd took the initiative to return the glory of this old palace to make it more attractive to the tourists.

"Rajarshi" is the name of the novel by Rabindranath Tagore, based on the life the king of the state of Tripura, named Govindamanikya. Udaipur has always been the centre of attraction - be it for political reasons or other reasons.  King of Tripura named Jhujaroofa defeated the king of Mog dynasty and captured Rangamati.
