AGARTALA, Jan 7 (TIWN): Tripura College of Nursing on Wednesday celebrated the 9th Foundation Day at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.

To mark the celebration various programmes has been organized.

During the programme, Chairperson of SFTMC Banamali Sinha, Dr. Basudev Bhattacharya, Director of Medical Education, Principal of Tripura Medical College Dr. Chinmoy Biswas, Registrar of Tripura Nursing Council Ashima Debbarma and others were present.

It is to be mentioned here that Tripura College of Nursing is also known as Tripura Medical College and Dr. B R Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital.

Tripura Medical College is affiliated to Tripura University and is recognised by ministry of Health and Family Welfare, government of India. The institute is managed by Global Education Net (GENET) which is an educational trust of Universal Empire Group.

Principal of Tripura College of Nursing- Sikha Deb delivered the welcome address and also submitted annual college report during the programmed. 

Besides, prizes were distributed among the toppers of the college in the University examinations. The Masters of Science Nursing students performed the inaugural song.

However, Tripura Medical College & Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital or TMC is located in the capital town of Tripura. The college operates the hospital known as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital within the campus.

The college was established in 2005 by the Government of Tripura and Global Educational Net (GENET) in a Public-Private Partnership, the first venture of its kind in India. But it received its first MCI permission for admission of students into M.B.B.S. course in 2006.

It is to be mentioned here that during the month of April–May 2009, due to some reasons the GENET expressed their inability to run the institution any further.

However, during that time around 200 students were pursuing the M.B.B.S course from there. Therefore, the Government of Tripura decided to run the college through a society and registered a society in the name and style of Society for Tripura Medical College on May 23 of 2009.
