AGARTALA, Dec 31 (TIWN): Despite of calling 12-hours strike and setting up of health committee yet no updates in the infant death case of Teliamura.

It has been ten days that a three member committee has been formed headed by Director of Health service Dr. K L Bhowmik but till day there are no updates from the authority. Surprisingly Health Minister Badal Choudhury is also silent over the issue.

It is to be mentioned here that the committee was formed to investigate the matter and submit its report within a week. If the allegations against the doctor Pritam Debnath are found true than the accused will be dealt with seriously.

However, almost ten days have passed that committee has been formed by till day no updates of any report.

It is to be mentioned here that the 45-day old child was administered polio vaccine on December 17 and he fell ill few hours after the vaccination.

Therefore, the infant was brought to the Teliamura Hospital. Allegedly the doctor was on a telephone for more than two hours and drunk.

However, after several request when the doctor did not attend the ailing child, the family members finally broke into the chamber and compelled him to child but by that time when the doctor came for treatment the child has been declared dead.

Patient parties alleged that his death was nothing but the result of wrong treatment done by Teliamura doctors.

Following that incident people of Teliamura had come into massive protest and started vandalism. For hours locals also blocked the road of Teliamura.

Besides, the Congress also called for 12 hour strike on December 21at Teliamura under tight security.

The people of Teliamura are mostly responding to the bandh. However, the congress leaders stated that the strike is being called in demand of the strict punishment of the doctor who is solely responsible for the death of the 45 day old child at a rural hospital in Teliamura.

However, it seems like the 12-hour strike and the formation of the committee went ineffective as till day the authorities are in yawning siesta as no updates are yet reported regarding the case.
