AGARTALA, Dec 30 (TIWN): As per Tripura Govt official version, dry season letting the construction agency workers to carry out the repairing work of the NH-44 especially in Tripura section. Talking to TIWN correspondent, PWD Chief Engineer on Tuesday said that 95 percent of the maintenance work is almost completed and the rest of the portion will be done soon if the dry season continues. He also said that the renovation of a road is a continuous process and agency is continuously carrying out the renovation work to avoid any traffic glitch on the NH-44 as it is one of the life lines of Tripura. Laying stress on the Churraebari portion he said that now the status of the road is absolutely fine and the maintenance is already completed. However, he denied commenting anything on the portion of the Lowerpowa on Assam. We have re-carpeted the affected portions and filled up the potholes time and again. However, the traffic volume is high, especially heavy trucks going which enter the state, end up eroding the road even before the repaired portion has set in. As a result, the whole stretch is now being taken up for special repair, he added.

Lack of repairing of the NH44 road especially from Churaibari to Lowerpoa has left the road in poor condition.  The particular road has not undergone any permanent renovation till now and the initial repairing of the road has left the road in critical condition.

If the road is not repaired in the dry season the road will be left totally paralysed in the coming days, as a result the vehicles have to travel through such terrible route.

Alleged negligence of Assam government has paralysed the National Highway 44 from Lowerpoa of Assam’s Karimganj district up to Churaibari Assam gate is laying in a terrible state.

The reason behind such dilapidated condition of the road is due to the negligence of the central government and Assam government. Although the responsibility of the repairing work is given to an organisation by the Assam government but the work is progressing in slow pace triggering resentment among the people.

The travel from on the National Highway-44 was once ceased to be a smooth ride.

Deadlines had been allegedly missed, construction incomplete in patches and potholes remain in stretches of the highway whose renovation work is underway.

Any hope of commuters to avoid the bumpy ride and massive traffic snarls is now likely as those at the ground-level say the work will is almost completed.
