SOUTH TRIPURA, Dec 16 (TIWN): Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has been observed "Bandh" under Sabroom Sub Division. The tribal areas of the state are mostly responding to the bandh.

Though the bandh was opposed by ruling left party, there were no untoward incidents reported. They staged protest in front of Rupaichari RD Block.

IPFT, the regional tribal based political party is a hard core supporter of a separate Tripura. They have been demanding a separate state called ‘Twipraland’ from a long time. Tribal based political party The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) organized rallies at Agartala on that particular demand.

IPFT has called the 12 hour strike in ADC area in demand of separate states. It’s here mentioned that, different groups’ of Northeast who are demanding separate statehood has called on a general strike on December 16.

‘Twipraland’ comprises the areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The autonomous district council covers almost two third of the state’s total geographical area and habitation of state’s one third population, mostly the tribals.

Left front along with state government is opposing the demand of IPFT’s separate state. While the opposition congress and BJP is silent on this particular issue.
