KAILASHAHAR, Dec 14 (TIWN): Despite of strict vigilance in the Border area of Kailashahar, cattle smuggling goes rampant in the areas of the sub-division.On yet another incident, miscreants have stolen three calves from a house and smuggled the calves cutting the border fence on Monday early morning. The incident is of Samrur Par of Kailashahar Sub-Division.Expressing resentment over the incident, the owner Narayan Shukla Baidya said that the calves cost above Rs. 1 lakh. He further said that his family depends upon the income from selling of the cow’s milk.Getting alarm about the incident, the officials of Border Security Force and Kailashahar Police rushed to the spot and investigated the fence area.Reportedly, the miscreants have cut the fence of the PSR 78 gate. However, police is yet to arrest the culprits. According to the officials, investigation is going on. A section of people alleged that due to the under table connection between police and smugglers the police are not doing anything to stop the smuggling of Phensedyl and contraband items.Locals claim that smuggling of cows to Bangladesh has been the matter of decades.

Police has been often detaining number of vehicles and seize thousands of bottles of Phensedyl consignments that are not used in Tripura but are supplied to Bangladesh. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg because the network is very deep rooted and widespread.

Reportedly, several Border areas are yet to be fenced. According to reports, around nine kilometres of border areas of Sonamura Sub-Division are yet to be fenced.

Detailing about remaining unfenced border areas, it has been mentioned that around eight kilometre of Balerdhepa, Srimantapur, northern side of Durgapur and NC Nagar under Sonamura Police Station, 200 meters of Tarapur village and around 800 meters of Buxanagar are yet to be fenced.

It is to be mentioned here that one month ago two cows has been smuggled through Indo-Bangla border by cutting the fence.

However, despite of strict vigilance in the border areas which includes both the fencing and non-fence areas the smuggling of illegal items goes rampant in various areas of the State.

It has not become possible to provide fencing in all side of the border. Thus the smuggling of cattle, human trafficking, fake currency, kidnapping and thefts are quite rampant along the border as there is lack of proper security arrangements in some parts of the bordering areas.
