Civic poll concluded successfully, no report of any untoward incident: says Deputy EC

AGARTALA, Dec 13 (TIWN): Deputy Election commissioner Tamal Majumder on Sunday said that the election session including the counting period was concluded successfully without any major report of any untoward incident in the state.

Counting to 291 seats of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), thirteen Municipal Councils and six Nagar Panchayats was concluded successfully in the state on December 12.

He further said that the model code of conduct was maintained successfully and will be withdrawn from the state on Monday. Neither from the interiors of the state nor from the city was there any report of any untoward incident.

The election to 19 of the 20 urban local bodies in Tripura passed peacefully including the session of counting.

The fate of 886 contesting candidates is already decided and Left has made a clean sweep in the municipal election.

The counting of ballots started from 8-00 AM on December 12 and ended by afternoon.

About 5.24 lakh voters cast their votes for 886 candidates across 657 polling booths. There was no report of any violence during the polling period and the vote was conducted peacefully in the state.

The Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress besides the Left Front are among those contesting the elections to the local urban bodies.

The state went on polling on December 9 which registered around 90 percent voting, which was considered as moderate turn out.

It is to be mention here that left Front led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Saturday swept the civic polls across the state, winning 291 among 310 seats all across the State.

Reportedly, among 49 wards altogether 45 seats were captured by Left Front and four are by Congress whereas BJP and others were left with zero wards.

Meanwhile, Congress has somehow managed to capture 13 seats all across the State, Bharatiya Janta Party with 4 and others with 2 seats.

Among all the 886 candidates, including 429 women, from all parties contested the civic polls.

The Left Front, comprising four Left parties and dominated by CPI-M, has won the Jirania Nagar Panchayat in western Tripura as the Left parties got all seats uncontested before the elections.

Where the Left Front has captured 45 seats in Municipal election, Congress could manage to capture 4 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation Election.

The counting process concluded peacefully with no allegation of discrepancy in the election process said Deputy EC.
