They topic of discuss of the programme was constitutional Law. Constitutional Law is the pillar of every edifice and knowledge discipline in our country. It has its own connotation and parameters for different disciplines. It takes in its sweep different interdisciplinary areas right from local governance to regulation of International Affairs. It is a grundnorm for all legal rules and regulations. In such scenario it turns out to be mandatory to understand Constitutional Law from its pragmatic approach. For the same, it is required to have discussion and deliberation from the holistic point of view on this area, including litigations.

Ever-expanding concept of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has stunned legal minds of the country in the latest two decades. By reviewing the practice of the Courts of India, the concept of PIL in India has been a marked departure from its American counterpart. In India, it has given voices to many, especially the poor and underprivileged, and has helped them establish their Fundamental Rights and various other legal rights governed by the laws of the country. It has also helped in fetching out the justice for 'aggrieved' in many administrative and service matters. Litigations which are facilitated by the higher judiciary in our country, have also tried to achieve basic human rights, socio-economic and constitutional rights of the citizens.

By relaxing the requirements of locus stand, and permitting any person who has sufficient interest in a matter to file a suit, the concept of PIL as developed by the Supreme Court of India has added breath and life to the Constitution and transformed it into a living document for Indians. In this background it becomes integral part of the process to understand the nuances of practice followed in the higher judiciary including High Courts and Supreme Court for entertainment of Litigations in Constitutional matters. In this background this litigation workshop will facilitate and focus on different dimensions of Constitutional Law in practice and procedure. It will facilitate in an understanding procedural application of 'law of the land' towards different upcoming issues in the present day context.
