Polling underway in peaceful circumstances, no report of any major untoward incident in the state

AGARTALA, Dec 9 (TIWN): According to the inputs based on the sources, Tripura records 40 -45 percent vote cast till 1 PM in the afternoon and apart from some technical snag in the EVMs there is no much report of any untoward incident in the state.

Large queue of people were witness standing in queues outside polling stations and mostly the new voters and women appeared the most enthusiastic across the state.

Polling to the municipal election in the Left-ruled Tripura is underway peacefully with a total of 40percent vote cast till 1pm in the afternoon.

It is expected that the number will definitely rise up by the evening in the state. 
Voters in large numbers queued up well before polling started at 7 a.m. New voters and women appeared the most enthusiastic across the state.

So far the voting passed off peacefully with no major incident reported from anywhere in the north-eastern state, which shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh.

The ballots will be counted on December 12. Political parties also expressed happiness over the peaceful conduct of the election so far and are expecting to win the election. 
The situation was completely peaceful in the extremist-dominated areas too, he said.
Only a scuffle took place between political workers in some polling booths. 
At a few polling stations, technical trouble with electronic voting machines (EVMs) led to brief disruptions.

December 12, Saturday will decide the fate of the 886 aspiring candidates in the Municipal election. Altogether 20,027 voters would decide the fate of 48 candidates in the by-elections to 17 seats in the Panchayat. The ruling Left Front has already won 10 seats uncontested after the opposition parties failed to put up candidates.

However, it is also to be mentioned here that Minister Tapan Chakraborty and PCC chief Birajit Sinha also cast their vote successfully at Kaislahar Municipal council on Wednesday morning.
