Hectic preparation for civic poll on Dec 9, EVMs deployed among polling personnel

AGARTALA, Dec 8 (TIWN): Launching hectic preparation in the capital, polling personnel were allotted with the Electronic Voting Machines on Tuesday at Umakanta Academy.

Huge crowd has been observed at the premises of Umakanta Academy. In order to ensure, peaceful and secure election troops of TSR and police personnel has been intensified all across the state. Besides, the Border Security Force has been instructed to keep strict vigilance in the border areas.

Besides, EVMs has also distributed among the polling personnel of Kailashahar.

It is to be mentioned here that a total of 886 candidates will contest in this election scheduled to be held on December 9. Among them 429 are female candidates.

On the same day, bi-election will be held on one Zilla Parishad, one Panchayat Samiti and on 15 Gram Pancayat.

According to the reports, for 291 seats in the upcoming municipal election, altogether 657 polling booths were set up. Besides, the total number of Candidates are 886, among them 272 candidates are of Congress, 273 are of Left Front and 255 candidates are of BJP.

A total of six candidates each are contesting election from Forward bloc, RSP and CPI. Apart from this, for the Municipal election 32 candidates are contesting from Trinamool Congress Party, one from CPI-ML, Amra Bangali- 17 and five candidates from Tripura People’s Party.

However, to ensure greater transparency and avoid confusion in the minds of voters, the Election Commission has decided that electronic voting machines (EVMs) would henceforth display images of the contestants along with their names and party symbols.

The new system would help the voters to avoid confusion about the concern candidates and would also help the voters to easily indentify the candidate. It has been implemented from the last Bi-election.

According to the poll panel notification, the implementation of new system is compulsory. The photograph of the concern candidates should be of stamp size with white or off-white background. The photo in colour or black and white is acceptable from the concern candidate.

Reportedly, the total numbers of voters are 5, 24, 612 and the election will commence at 7 am in the morning.

However, as part of security measure, a total of 86 mobile vans will be guarding on the day of election. Besides, the polling personnel will leave for the booths by Tuesday. The counting of vote has scheduled to be conducted on December 12.
