Civic poll: Vote cast to begin from 7 AM on Wednesday, 3,300 polling personnel appointed, state to observe triangular fight

AGARTALA, Dec 8 (TIWN): With the aim to conduct free and fair election, Vote cast for the municipal election to begin from Wednesday morning. Preparation is on the peak for the election.It is to be mention here that the vote cast to begin sharp at 7 in the morning at all the polling stations. To conduct the elections, twenty Returning Officers and 25 Observers have been appointed while altogether 18 counting halls have been established. A total of 3,300 polling personnel are appointed for the municipal election which is scheduled to be held on December 9 under strict security vigilance. However, a large number of 5, 24,612 will cast vote and decide the fate of the 886 aspiring candidates in the Municipal election. Almost all the polling personnel’s have left for their respective station to conduct smooth election in the state.Altogether 20,027 voters would decide the fate of 48 candidates in the by-elections to 17 seats in the Panchayat. The ruling Left Front has already won 10 seats uncontested after the opposition parties failed to put up candidates.Regular patrolling of the security force begins in full swing to conduct free and fair election in the state.

Elections to prestigious Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and nineteen Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats are all set to witness triangular fight with all major political parties- Left Front, Congress and BJP contesting the battle of ballots separately.

With the end of the campaign, the security arrangements have just geared up in the state to avoid any untoward incident just ahead of the municipal election in the state.

However, the Municipal election will held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.

State chief election commissioner told reporters here that counting of votes for 5 lakhs, 24 thousand, and 612 voters would take place onDecember 12.  Campaign ended as per law on Monday, 48 hours before the casting to start on December 9 and all preparation are complete for holding peaceful election.  It is expected that there would be no problem to cast vote on election day- December 9 as so far there is no report of any untoward incident.

Amid tight security arrangement, State Election Commission (SEC) is all set for conducting municipal election, scheduled to be held through EVMs on December9. Besides, troops of BSF and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) are intensifying joint operation including patrolling along the border and keeping a close vigil on the movements of people along the border, said the source.
