AGARTALA, Nov 30 (TIWN): Aiming to curb the rising HIV, various initiatives has been taken up by the Tripura AIDS Control Society on World AIDS Day to be held on December 1.
To mark the celebration of the World AIDS Day to be observed on December 1, a candle march will be organized all across the capital. Besides, a sit and draw competition will also be organized.
The programme is being organized with the initiatives of the Tripura AIDS Control Society.
World AIDS Day is celebrated every year on December 1 since 1988. It is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease.
Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.
During the current financial year, till September, the death toll has touched two digit- 10.
However, according to the reports, the numbers of HIV positive patients are increasing by the passing days. During 2013-14, a total of 225 new cases reported to TSACS while it has gone up to 265 in the year 2014-15.
The World AIDS Day on December 1 is the day when individuals and organisations from around the world come together to raise awareness about AIDS and demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the pandemic.
